The Quadra, one of Elinchrom’s most anticipated products, is a compact, lightweight battery pack and head system which is now available in the US.

Not only are Quadra’s small and lightweight, they are also powerful and fast. Quadra’s have a power range from 8.2 to 400ws and support two asymmetric heads. Lightning fast recycle times and Elinchrom’s shortest flash duration helps make for an unbeatable package. Some of the built in features include:

Built-in Skyport Triggering

Eye-Cell Technology (to help with pre-flash issues)

Power Steps (from 1/10 step increments to any 1/20, 1/30, … 1/90, 1 stop increments)

20 watt LED Modeling Light (which burns at 5900 degrees Kelvin, great for HD video)

Adjustable ready-beep sound length

Programmable On/Off Modeling Light

Short Flash Durations (A-heads capable of up to 1/6000 (in B port), S-heads capable of up to 1/3200 (in B port))

Quick recycle times (2.2 seconds at full power)

Great flash capacity

6.6 F-Stop Range

Quickly recharges (1.5 hours full recycle – 45 minutes 80%)

Access to most of Elinchrom’s world class modifiers with optional adaptor ring

The Ranger Quadra is designed to work with two brand new heads known as Ranger Q heads. The Quadra “S” (standard) head shortest flash duration is 1/3200 of a second while the Quadra “A” head shortest flash duration is 1/6000 of a second. These new heads are about the same size and weight as popular tilt-head flashes on the market today but provide a much broader power range and access to modifiers. Their small size allows them to be mounted just about anywhere using a Manfrotto 175 spring clamp to clamp onto a window sill, lamp, door frame, or even the back of a chair.

The Ranger Q heads have their own line of Elinchrom accessories to accommodate their super-compact size. The heads come with a 5.3” standard reflector. A Quadra 7” grid reflector and a 15.75” Quadra square softbox are also available. Ranger Q heads can be fitted with an optional Ranger Quadra Reflector Adapter for EL Reflectors (EL 26339) which allows all of Elinchrom modifiers; except the 53” and 69” Rotalux to be used with a Quadra head.

Available as separates, To Go Sets or Complete Kits.

To Go Set’s Include:

Quadra Pack

Battery

Either a Quadra S or Quadra A head

Shoulder Strap

Scott Kelby, editor and publisher of Photoshop User Magazine, Layers magazine, president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and the man in charge of Kelby Media Group, has officially declared certain Elinchrom items to be “Hot!”

In his own words, “The 'Scott Thinks It’s Hot!' award is kind of like this blog’s (scottkelby.com) 'Editor's Choice' award or ‘Hot Pick’ award, and will only be awarded to products or services that: (1) I fall hopelessly in love with, and (b) I actually use myself. So, if you see that logo on a product in my blog, it has to be just about perfect (well, to me anyway).”

With standards that high, the “Scott Thinks It’s Hot!” award has only been awarded six times since the blog launched in 2007. Of those six, an impressive two went to Elinchrom for their BXRi compact heads and Skyport Wireless Triggering System.

What made Scott fall in love with Skyport:

The power of each strobe can be controlled right from the transmitter on top of the camera.

The modeling lights can be turned on/off the same way as the strobes.

Combined with the USB key (sold separately), the Skyport will let you control your entire studio from you Mac or PC. The software is free (yes, free!) and will even save the set-up so it can be easily loaded into the strobes next time you shoot. The software’s studio capabilities will “rock your world.”

The Skyports are more cost effective than other alternatives and since the quality of these Elinchrom products is the best, you are getting superior products for the best value.

Scott and the 500 BXRi:
Scott did a short video review of the 500 BXRi and awarded it his Scott Thinks It’s Hot! Award – the first of 2009. His main reasons for loving this compact head are:

It has built-in Skyport so you’re shooting wireless right out of the box.

Fast recycle times and built-in thermally controlled cooling system Short flash duration for sharper shots

Built-in Skyport supports up to 4 different groups which can be controlled wirelessly from the camera

Excellent quality and value for a great price.
